GATES AND WALLS
Dr. David Del Vecchio
Why do we put up gates? What good is a gate without a wall? Isaiah tells us that walls are called salvation and gates are called praise.
Isa 60:18 Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise.
When Jesus gives us Salvation, He gives us a new identity, one that creates security, it reveals victory, and deliverance, and because of this salvation, praise is created in us, and if we stop praising we start burning out.The gates go first and then the walls.
If the gates are burned out what good are the walls?
If we are serious about ridding ourselves of worldly behavior and destruction within our personal lives, then we need to keep our gates and live through our praise. This is a very tall order.
When we no longer praise the Lord we turn inward, and soon we find ourselves burned out and depressed. When we take down the gates or open the gates, what good are the walls? If we participate in everything the world does, what does the world see as different?
What makes us stand out from the world?
What makes me stand out from the world?
What makes you stand out from the world?
The word salvation in Isaiah 60 is the word Yeshua. Even in the Old Testament the word means our salvation is Jesus Christ. The walls of our lives are being placed there by a life in Jesus.Outside of those walls there is no salvation.Jesus gives us walls of protection, like the walls God placed around Job, until He removed them.We have too often taken our own gates down and let the enemy of our soul in, and even though Christ wants to be a wall for us, He cannot, because we have opened ourselves through the gates of our eyes, our ears and our senses, and worse, we continue to do it everyday.
When we accept Jesus into our lives He establishes gates. For the 1st time in our lives we have gates that remind us or tell us, this is not for you, do not go this way, go another direction. We are told to work out our salvation; that lets us know our spirit man is redeemed, but our soul man needs to work out this salvation, and this work is what our soul man must do when he comes upon a gate that Jesus has placed into his life. Working out our salvation means that by our behavior we are building walls that connect these gates These gates help us move away from evil, and towards God almost naturally. It becomes second nature, because Jesus gave us a new nature. The problem comes when we get to the gate, and because of habit walk around the gate, because we walked that way before the gate was placed there for us, and we do what we have always done. When you have the gate you have the entrance or the opening. When the gate is up, you can keep the security that comes with the gate. When the government God establishes in the church is removed, and men replace God’s government with their ideas, you end up with a counterfeit. When the gates are down, anything can pass through.
Neh. 1:2-3 NIV Hanani, one of my brothers, came from Judah with some other men, and I questioned them about the Jewish remnant that survived the exile, and also about Jerusalem. 3They said to me, “Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.”
When we read the account by Nehemiah in the bible, we see a city that has been overturned and in his account the gates had been burnt out, therefore the ministry had been burnt out and dried up; said another way, the government was gone. So they were in affliction and reproach. That word affliction is the same word used to describe a tree that has become diseased and is lying on the ground. The tree is utterly broken down and branches lie at its base everywhere. In the natural, there is no way to make it live again, to replace its branches. As individuals the same thing holds true. When we open the gates or burn our gates by repeated sins in the same area the government in our lives is gone. It just cannot stay; it no longer has hinges to hang on.
David writes in Psalm 19:13 Keep your servant also from willful sins, may they not rule over me. Then will I be blameless, innocent of great transgression.
We, as individuals are the ones who allow our gates to become burned, and when we allow the gates to be burned the walls are sure to follow and then what we could have or should have kept out is now running free in our lives coming and going at will. How do we keep our personal gates closed and secure? Think about the music that you listen to, and how it affects your emotions. Consider what you watch on TV, and how much it affects you. Consider what you would not ever watch and now you do. Allow me to give you several things that could become a problem. I was watching CSI on TV and an evil man horribly killed a young woman. In my mind I wanted to catch this guy before Horatio Cane did and I realized, for me personally, CSI may be a memory of what I used to watch, because I saw how I was drawn into the movie, and how I wanted to catch the killer and how I wanted to personally rearrange his body parts. I began to feel some time ago that I needed to change from the action movies that I enjoy, to something that will not ignite in me a behavior and thought process, that is not helping me in the direction I want to go toward Jesus.
I recognized this problem as a gate. A gate into my soul man, which is having a negative effect on my spirit man. Is it a sin for me to watch action movies or CSI, no, of course not, but is it helping my spirit man, or holding him back? How on earth am I going to heal the sick, raise the dead, cast out demons and save the lost, when I am thinking as the world thinks? My old man has been laid to rest, why am I resurrecting him by thinking like he thought? Why am I opening a door or gate that was closed? Another gate we must not open; DO NOT LET your conversation include murmuring, suspicion, discontentment and double talk. Do not let others include you in conversations that would allow your walk with Jesus to become common, or your value soiled. When we blend in we no longer show the light, but we do reveal areas in us that still operate through darkness. In other words, do not stay when someone feels the need to tell a bad joke and do not stay when someone is being critical or diminishing another person.
When you think someone is lying to you—stop them, and if someone is saying unkind things about another body member, ask them to go with you and tell that other body part what they said. That will bring their behavior to a screeching halt. As I was writing this I recalled how many liberals referred to “President Bush and his evil empire”. That reference is directed at his Christianity and to people like you and me who are also Christians, and hearing it cranks up my emotions. Our emotions are a gate into our lives that can create numerous problems. When we surrender our emotions for the way of the cross, we will have Christ’s victory and we will have crucified the flesh; or better said, we will have surrendered our will to the will of the One we serve, and by so doing defeated satan, and that will help keep the door closed to him. The end result will be changes in the natural, because we have operated in the spirit with weapons that are not carnal or natural, and THAT is how a believer crucifies his flesh. It is imperative to each of us that we defeat satan everyday and all day. If you want to give him a beating, behave in this manner. Although there is nothing wrong with increasing the volume when addressing him or his minions or his principalities, when you know that you are in Christ’s authority, your words, not your volume make him move.I use volume because it makes me feel good to vent.
Remember the words we speak and the actions we portray should be visible enough to the world that we are different. If our words and actions blend in with the world’s conversations and behavior, how can we show them the difference? It is hard to hide a TORCH, but it is easy to blow out a flickering flame. We are not to blend in with the world, but more often than not, we cannot be told apart from them.
Tell me, how do we tell a believer’s wedding from a non-believer?
How do we tell a Christian employee from one who is of the world? When I was preparing to share this message, I began to see in the spirit people carrying what looked like a 6 to 8 foot long picket fence. The fence was under their right arm and the reason it was under their right arm and not their left is because it stands between them and God. When words are used or the senses of these people are touched, their emotions rise and they add to the fence an unnatural gate that blocks them from receiving healing when they pray or when someone prays for them.
I see the pickets jabbing them under the arm, in other words, they are being pricked in sensitive areas of their lives—so much so, they now have a sore spot and this sore spot is an unnatural gate they have created and it keeps them from true fellowship with God and mankind. This sore spot keeps them from being effective in ministry and moving fully into their God given destiny. They have blocked the flow by establishing an unnatural gate in their lives. There are many schoolteachers and college professors whose idea of TRUTH and education is to allow and accept every liberal ideaout there and deny real truth and God’s way of operating. They accept every liberal idea, but notice they do not accept the way of Christ. Instead of thinking of us as lights, They consider born again Christians as disturbed substandard beings. The National Education Assoc. has become as evil as the ACLU. They have selected books for grammar school children that encourage “spirit guides” [demons]. They are openly inviting demons into our children, and the “lights” of the church remain silent; mostly, because they remain ignorant of the enemy’s devices.
The NEA has selected books that endorse and encourage homosexual marriage. One example is “Tommy has two mommies” Nickolai Krushev, a past leader of Russia in the 50’s and 60’s, is the man responsible for killing over 6,000,000 Russians. He killed people who represented a different ethnic culture than his in his own country and under his rule, and was quoted as saying “give me your children up to age 5 and they will be mine forever.” Look at the Muslim children if you have any question about him being correct. Children are very moldable and believe what those in authority, tell them. Never forget, we are the ones who take them to school and we are the ones who help them get into college. The subliminal message to them is clear; mom and dad sent me here to learn, so they must concur that what I am learning is correct.
We as parents have torn down their gates and their professors remove their walls. Many of these people, about whom we are speaking, want their worldview to become the view of these young minds that are expecting the TRUTH from them. We send our children to colleges and universities, and for the most part, they are very liberal and because we send our children there, the children allow the gates that they were taught to keep closed, to open, and soon the walls are down as well, and when they come home we do not recognize them anymore, because the children we sent have been filled with junk that we did not want in them.
We sent them to the university as Godly and conservative thinkers and the university sends them back to us as ungodly and liberal and then we wonder why and how they could have changed. We even call theological seminaries, cemeteries, because they kill the student’s love and commitment to God. Today there are book writers and moviemakers who have a liberal agenda. They want to polarize people groups and turn them against each other, and always WITH THE INTENTION of leaving God out of the equation. They see how quickly the world is changing and they want in on the ground floor, not because they believe so much of what they say, but they are antagonized so much by what others say especially those with conservative views.
They believe that their books can lead us into the true direction. They cause many to worry and fret, but who do nothing more. The Greek word for worry [MERIMNAO] means to divide into parts. It suggests that we are distracted or preoccupied with something or many things. These things that distract or occupy our minds cause stress, because they bring pressure and cause us to lose focus. Anything that takes your focus off of God is a diversion a distraction from your destiny and it becomes an open gate.
Heb 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside everyweight, and the sin, which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
A weight [ong’kos in Greek] means a burden or weight or encumbrance that becomes a crooked path. Worry causes us to take a crooked path or change the path we are on and take the wrong turns. Please hear that; worry causes us to take the wrong path, it opens the wrong door or gate.
People who focus are better able to stay the course. It is very hard to distract them. The road that focused people see is straight there are no crooked hooks so they see the end. When we allow burdens or weights or encumbrances to hook us, we lose focus and we concentrate on the crooked hooks and not the road. People with focus usually end up with the thing that has their focus. People without focus usually end up lost. Now back to the people who have their own agenda. Some of these folks want us all to be the same, think the same way, and let everyone live as they want. The problem is this thinking is causing a greater distance of separation with much more polarization than ever. Today there is much more separation and hatred and divisiveness than ever before.
As you watch in the days ahead you will see the separation of our THINKING become even more visible; it has to, time is short and the right spirit has no place with the wrong spirit. God made us different, because he wanted us different. He wanted us to learn to love and respect our differences, not our sinful thoughts or ways, but our differences.
He wants us to come as persons and families with differences, who love and respect each other’s differences and seek Him for true unity. We are to respect our differences, not a different spirit. Even Jesus had to correct one of His own, when He said to Peter, “you do not know what spirit you are of.” He of course was referring to the spirit that Peter had allowed to overshadow him and cause him to want what gratified Peter; it was that thought process, “what’s in it for me”that Jesus was addressing. There is no unity outside of Christ. And there is no way any of us can have unity with those outside of Christ, because that would be unnatural in the spirit. He also does not want us to swallow the nonsense that allows sin as being more open-minded. Sin is sin and open-minded liberal thinking is an abomination to the God who made the laws. God welcomes the sinner, but only if they do not want to continue in their sin. God does not accept sinners who reject and refuse His Son or His Son’s words. Why should He? He sent His Son as a ransom for mankind.
When a man refuses this generous gift, he refuses God. People who willfully continue in their sin have rejected God and His Word, no matter what their mouth confesses.
John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
Some people are so blinded to the truth one must wonder how they see at all. In many cases “satan has blinded their eyes and minds so they cannot see. In order to even come to Jesus the blinders have to be removed so that these people can see truth. Without real truth in their lives, there is no reality, so they walk in this world blind. Since many of them own, operate, and influence the media, they put forth what they want the world to believe.
They in fact create the field they want with their rendition of the facts. Then they plant the seeds they have decided need to be germinated. They expect that the harvest will come their way--- I tell you now, the harvest is coming, but it is not coming their way. There is a temporary aspect of this harvest that looks promising to these people, but I tell you now, they will not have their way, the church is finally awakened. These people consider the redeemed of the Lord asunenlightened and close-minded. They say believers are on a lower level mentally and financially. That is not true and soon and very soon they will see God is not mocked, the redeemed will be seen on the high ground and the believer’s faith will overwhelm what man calls being enlightened. Why is it always the liberal who wants to exclude God and not the conservative? It is imperative to be God minded and IF that appears as close-minded, let it be so. God desires unity, but NEVER at the price of truth, never at the price of allowing sin an open door and never at the price of allowing evil philosophies, and man’s idea of how things should be in God’s world.
These people think they know everything, but in truth they know nothing and the reason why they know nothing is because they DO NOT KNOW the giver of truth, nor the one who is love and who brings unity. They have no peace, because they turned their backs on the prince of peace to accept man’s ideology in place of God. That way they feel they will not have to answer for their sins. They hate and backbite and are out to change the world into how they see it, how they think it should be. They purposely leave God out of it.
They are the ones who create the TV programs we watch, the music we listen to and news we read. David warns us inPsalm 1, do not watch, listen or hear the counsel of the wicked.
Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinner or sit in the seat of mockers.
They took the Ten Commandments out of the rotunda in Montgomery in 2007, and prayer out of schools in 1962, the bible in 1967 and in 2004 in the middle of June they almost took “one nation under God”, out of the pledge of Allegiance. THEY ARE STILL TRYING, and yet they are the first to say “where was God when the twin towers were attacked.” Please give them the answers you are hearing today. It is amazing that you CANNOT read a bible in school, but you can in a prison. Is that backward or just blatantly stupid? Does that bother anyone but me? These same people support and cry out for abortion rights and same sex marriage and they call that unity and open-mindedness, but you endanger a toad or a lizard and they will complain until they shut down your business. Drilling for oil was stopped in a specific location in Texas because of a three inch endangered lizard.
They say, “Mankind will prevail”.
God calls it all an ABOMINATION and I tell you that only God will prevail. They often condescend to us and act as if believers are indolent beasts, who lack understanding. They look at us with an insouciant smile and tout that they have understanding and we have none. The church in general has become imprisoned and afraid to speak out. Afraid to really pray in public, yet these people do not hesitate to take God’s name in vain in every public forum they are given.
It has become increasingly difficult to watch a recent movie, because even PG movies have taken God’s name in vain, thinking that it is ok to say that, thinking it is not evil, as are the other things they call adult entertainment. They boldly act as if right is on their side, they are mendacious at every turn and they pervert the truth.
It is PAST time for the church to be the church.
These are the issues, now lets’ look at our response to them. It is past time that we train our spirits to see people and situations in the spirit and not the flesh. This kind of a message often gets us worked up, because it touches our flesh, AND it touches who we are, however true this may be, we need to be touched in the spirit, and lift this away from the flesh.
This will be one of the hardest steps we will take as Christians. The reason it will be so hard is because our flesh is so strong and our spirits are not yet as strong as they should be, as they one day soon will be.
2 Cor 5:16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.
The flesh always has some distortion in it, some prejudice or some stronghold, mine as well as yours.
Jer 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? We don’t even know our own heart. The spirit allows us to judge clearly who or what we are seeing. We must learn not to judge others by what we see or hear and that my friends, is a very tall order. Appearances can be and often are deceiving, but our trained spirits can look beyond the walls of flesh and beyond the mountain of difficulties, and issues and see into the heart of God.
We must purposely train our spirits. Why not—we have trained our flesh. It is here we can see both people and situations, as God would have us see them. It is here that we can respond in love and truth and not react in anger and from man’s incomplete perspective. Jesus died for every one of the people I have just mentioned. He died for each one and sometimes that is hard to live with, but that does not make it any less true. We need to see them as being trapped or imprisoned and with a heart of love bring them to the master. Perhaps for some of us it can only be by prayer and others of us a word fitly spoken, but for many, we will have an opportunity to win them to Jesus and then disciple them with Him. If our lifestyle is not radically different than theirs, our words will fall way short, and MANY of us do not want to be radically different.
Many become angry when thinking about these people and rightfully so; However, the anger comes through the heart of flesh; we felt the attack against who we are, and what we know should be. Now take that anger and give it to Jesus; put it on the cross and let Him be Lord over it. Let that anger become a quest to let Jesus be Lord over all the reasons we became angry and upset. Now let the emotions you feel come through the heart of the spirit and the heart of worship. See them through the cross. Your anger was not wrong; many of these things do and should make us angry, But the anger was misdirected. Our anger must be toward the sin and not the sinner. Our anger should be directed towardsatan and his evil empire, with the intention of its destruction. We have tied God’s hands and halted His purpose for our lives, because we have become so focused on the sinner and not the sin. Because of what we have done in failing to keep His purpose for our lives, our purpose as well, we are writhing in pain, unable to birth the purpose and destiny that God intends for us. Some of us want to be something other than what we were called and anointed to be, and that has moved us out of our designated boundaries and into a calling that was NOT designed for us, which produces the failure to walk in our privileges and great personal disappointment. So now we are unhappy, and for some among us, we are trying to find ourselves, usually at the expense of someone else.
We bind God’s hands when we live outside or beneath our possibilities. The word affliction gives us a picture that cannot change, BUT WITH GOD. With God all things are possible, and today it is time to put the tree back on its base and the branches where they belong and for that tree to live again. If you are that tree, you can live again and reestablish that close relationship you once had with God. If you have never had a relationship with God today is your chance to begin one. But count the cost; do not come down to the front for fire insurance that you THINK may keep you out of Hell, because that attitude will keep you out of Heaven and put you into Hell, thinking you have done something when in truth, all you have done is given your own mind mental assent. Make a decision you intend to keep and count the cost before you accept the cross. Remember your salvation builds walls that are designed to keep you safe, these walls are designed by God to surround you with His good.
As you work out your salvation, stay within the walls. When you encounter a gate that is designed to keep the old man out, go another way as you work our your salvation. And when we continue to praise the one who saved us, we keep our gates from destruction.
